This film (and it WAS a film, not a video) was issued on Super-8. This was the format that people used to use for home movies, before VHS videotape - let alone digital recording - was invented. It generally had no sound, and was often filmed at 18 frames a second, instead of the standard 24. So when played on a standard 24 fps projector (as this clearly was when transferred to video) it appeared to run fast, and was necessarily silent.

That's what life used to be like back when I were a lad.

So - as absolutely nobody used to say back then - it's not a bug but a feature.

Thanks for the explanation. I remember the Super-8 films, especially one named "The Piano Lesson", but didn't know that this was one of them.

This version seems to have been better converted. Still no real audio of course, and the colors aren't great, but the speed and aspect ratio is much improved.
